OpenAI CEO Acknowledges That A Glitch Permitted Certain ChatGPT Users To View The Titles Of Other Conversations
Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, has revealed a problem that allowed some users of the well-known AI chatbot ChatGPT to see messages from other users.

“We had a significant issue in ChatGPT due to a bug in an open source library, for which a fix has now been released and we have just finished validating,” Altman tweeted.

“A small percentage of users were able to see the titles of other users’ conversation history.”

As early as Monday, some users claimed to have seen communications from other individuals.

Reddit users have discovered conversations with titles like "Xi Jingping's Six Principles" and "China Socialist Progress" that were previously hidden in the sidebar.

On Twitter, another person posted a screenshot of their ChatGPT that displayed chat titles for talks they had never had.

Following concerns that other people's chat records were accessible, OpenAI temporarily stopped the chatbot on Monday, a company representative told Bloomberg.

“We feel awful about this,” Altman said in a tweet Tuesday.

The problem was later resolved. Users will no longer be able to view chat logs for ChatGPT talks that occurred between 1 and 10 a.m. Pacific Time on Monday, March 20, according to Altman.

Soon after its November launch, ChatGPT experienced an incredible surge in popularity. The tool uses what is known as a large language model, powered by enormous amounts of data, to allow users to type in prompts to generate human-like responses.

It has been used by people to create software code, song lyrics, and even academic essays.

According to a UBS note released last week, ChatGPT, which became the fastest-growing consumer program in history in January after only two months of operation, had attracted 100 million monthly active users.

Instagram attained the same popularity after 2.5 years, but TikTok took nine months to reach 100 million subscribers.
