In A Further Shake-Up, Elon Musk Warns That Only Verified Twitter Users Will Appear In Its Recommendation Feed

In A Further Shake-Up, Elon Musk Warns That Only Verified Twitter Users Will Appear In Its Recommendation Feed
Only verified accounts will appear in Twitter's recommendation feed, according to Elon Musk, as the billionaire continues to shake up the social media platform.

Twitter's "For You" page displays tweets from people they don't follow but are recommended by the social media company's algorithm. This has so far shown accounts from any Twitter user, whether verified or not.

However, Musk declared in a late Monday tweet that from now on, only verified accounts will appear in the "For You" area of the site.

The move, according to Musk, is "the only feasible approach to address sophisticated AI bot swarms taking over."

Only verified users would be able to vote in polls, according to Musk.

Musk has been trying to shake up the way Twitter handles verification since acquiring the company last year. Prior to Musk's takeover, Twitter used to verify users with a blue check mark to ensure that the account matched the person or entity it claimed to be. This procedure was free of charge and was used by celebrities, journalists, government officials, and organizations.

Last year, Musk launched Twitter Blue, a subscription service that charges $8 per month to be verified and receive the blue check mark.

Twitter said last week that it would phase out its "legacy verified" program and remove "legacy verified" check marks on April 1.

Those who have the legacy checkmarks are being encouraged to sign up for the Twitter Blue subscription service.

Musk has been looking for additional revenue streams for Twitter, with paid verification being a prominent policy. Nonetheless, the company's worth has reportedly plummeted.

According to an email sent to employees and obtained by the New York Times, Musk told them last week that Twitter is now valued at $20 billion. This is less than half of the $44 billion Musk paid for the company last year.
